Boxing is a combat sport where two fighters use their fists to punch each other in a boxing ring. Fighters wear protective gloves and a mouthguard and compete in a series of timed rounds. The objective is to score points by landing punches, but a fight can also end if a boxer is knocked out or knocked down. The sport requires both skill and strategy, as boxers must analyze their opponents and make tactical decisions in addition to being aggressive.
Boxing's history begins with bare-knuckle fighting in ancient Africa and Egypt, becoming an Olympic sport in 688 BC and evolving into Roman gladiatorial combat. After the Roman Empire's fall, boxing was revived as bare-knuckle prizefighting in 18th-century London, leading to the first formal rules in 1743. Modern boxing developed in the 19th century with the Queensberry Rules, which introduced gloves, rounds, and prohibited holding, transforming the brutal sport into the regulated activity it is today
