MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is a full-contact combat sport that combines a variety of fighting disciplines, including striking (like boxing, Muay Thai, and kickboxing) and grappling (such as wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). Competitors face off in a caged arena, applying techniques that can take place while standing or on the ground, with the goal of winning by knockout, submission, or decision. The sport gained significant global recognition with the launch of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the early 1990s, evolving into a structured sport with unified rules to ensure fairness and safety.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that combines techniques from a variety of other martial arts disciplines. Instead of specializing in a single style, MMA fighters are trained to use both striking (punches, kicks, etc.) and grappling (wrestling, submissions) while standing and on the ground. The sport gained widespread popularity and legitimacy in the 1990s through promotions like the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), evolving from a more brutal, no-holds-barred format into a regulated sport with unified rules.
